Happy Halloween

CB_Cemetery_HDR

This year’s Halloween image was made in July in Crested Butte, CO. The sky looked great and I planned to spend some time photographing in the cemetery. Mother Nature had other ideas, though. The storm was approaching rapidly, accompanied by lots of thunder and lightning. I snapped a few images and made it back to the car just as the really big drops started to fall. The HDR processing brought out the structure in the clouds and helped make the image sufficiently spooky to qualify as a Halloween post.

Once again, it is time say a heartfelt “Thank You” to all of you who have viewed and commented on my photographs both here and on Facebook. As I look back on 2014, it has been a great year in so many ways. We have traveled to some of our favorite places (including Hawaii and an extended stay in Crested Butte) and visited family in Iowa, Minnesota and Oregon. I am truly grateful for all of the opportunities that 2014 has brought me.

As usual, I have posted a selection of my favorite images from the past year. The collection includes images from our travels as well as some from closer to home. To view them, click here.

The photo above is of a wave at Papohaku beach on Moloka’i, Hawaii. To me, this abstract image evokes the delicately balanced order versus chaos exhibited by waves as they break along the shore.

Happy New Year to everyone!

While Bob Cole and I were in Yosemite for a private workshop with William Neill, we enjoyed playing with longer exposures and camera movement to produce impressionist-style images. This one was taken along the Merced River late in the day with warm light reflecting off El Capitan.
