Last week, Bob Cole and I traveled to Yosemite National Park for a private workshop with William Neill. It was a fantastic workshop. We worked with Bill on many aspects of photographing the park. One of my favorites was intimate landscapes; in particular, strategies for cutting through the clutter in complex scenes. For this image, I used a wide aperture to create a shallow depth of field to blur the background and focus the eye on the leaves. The wide aperture had the added advantage of allowing a high enough shutter speed to stop the motion of the gently blowing leaves.
