Glacier Lilies

_DSC2530-Edit

For the past couple of weeks, we have been in Crested Butte, CO viewing and photographing wildflowers – something we haven’t done for quite a while. The wet winter and spring have given us a spectacular show.

We arrived early in the season in hopes of finding some Glacier Lilies. These amazing flowers bloom at the edge of the snow melt and can often be seen pushing through the snow. The morning after we arrived, we found fields of them growing along the road to Lake Irwin as well as up at the lake. This year, the snowpack has been so high that there is melting snow everywhere at the higher altitudes. We even found Glacier Lilies growing in Ohio Pass yesterday.

Here’s another of the infinite looks that these wildflowers offer.
