Horned Puffin

_DSC1402-Edit

While we were at the Silver Salmon Creek Lodge, we took a boat trip up to Duck Island (part of the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge) to photograph puffins. The weather was a bit iffy when we started out, but cleared as we approached the island. We found both Horned Puffins and and Tufted Puffins, as well as Black-legged Kittiwakes, Glaucous-winged Gulls, Cormorants, Murres and a host of other birds that use Duck Island and it’s larger neighbor, Chisik Island, as a rookery.
