Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden is a 10.5-acre (4.2 ha) community botanical garden located at 13735 24th Avenue South, SeaTac, Washington and is open daily without charge. The garden started as the private plantings by Elda and Ray Behm on a 1-acre (4,000 m2) site. Their property was slated for demolition in the mid-1990s for the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport's proposed third runway. In 1999 an agreement was reached to relocate their existing plantings onto vacant land to form a new botanical garden adjacent to the North SeaTac Community Center.Starting in 2000, about 85 to 90% of the plants were transplanted by some 200 volunteers to form the garden's initial 2 acres (8,100 m2). The Paradise Garden features a 120-foot (37 m) stream which empties into a 7,000 gallon pond, a rustic log pergola, and an astounding assortment of trees, shrubs and perennials. Milky Way & night sky
From Highline Botanical Garden, the Milky Way core is visible in a dark sky from April through August. June gives the longest window (about 1.8 hours on a moonless night), and the core peaks around 14° above the southern horizon. Our light-pollution model puts the sky at about Bortle 8 (city sky), so expect visible sky glow; drive away from towns for better results.

Window when the galactic core is at least 10° high during astronomical darkness on the 15th of each month. Pick nights within a few days of the new moon. Plan exact nights with the Milky Way planner.
Estimated sky darkness: 8 Bortle 8 — City sky. Only bright constellations are visible; the sky glows orange or white. Modeled zenith brightness ≈ 18.15 mag/arcsec². Aurora needs roughly Kp 5.0+ to show low on the northern horizon here.
Weather & best season
Long-term NASA satellite data for this area show July as the clearest month (about 46% average cloud cover) and January as the cloudiest (80%). August is the warmest month and December the coldest, which matters for gear, snow access and how long batteries last at night.
