The Leica C-Lux (Typ 1546) uses the built-in lens (fixed-lens camera) with a 2.73× crop factor (about 13.2 × 8.8 mm sensor). Below: equivalent focal lengths, maximum shutter speeds for sharp stars, a hyperfocal distance chart and how to check the shutter count.
Equivalent focal length & field of view

|---|---|---|---|
| 8 mm | 22 mm | 89.5° | 79.0° |
| 10 mm | 27 mm | 76.8° | 66.8° |
| 12 mm | 33 mm | 66.9° | 57.6° |
| 14 mm | 38 mm | 59.1° | 50.5° |
| 16 mm | 44 mm | 52.7° | 44.8° |
| 18 mm | 49 mm | 47.6° | 40.3° |
| 20 mm | 55 mm | 43.3° | 36.5° |
| 24 mm | 66 mm | 36.6° | 30.8° |
| 28 mm | 76 mm | 31.6° | 26.5° |
| 35 mm | 96 mm | 25.5° | 21.4° |
| 50 mm | 136 mm | 18.0° | 15.0° |
| 85 mm | 232 mm | 10.7° | 8.9° |
| 135 mm | 369 mm | 6.7° | 5.6° |
| 200 mm | 546 mm | 4.5° | 3.8° |
| 300 mm | 819 mm | 3.0° | 2.5° |
Multiply by the 2.73× crop factor for the full-frame equivalent field of view.
Milky Way exposure: NPF and 500 rule
| Focal length | NPF @ f/1.8 | NPF @ f/2.8 | Strict NPF @ f/2.8 | 500 rule |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 mm | 16.9 s | 21.2 s | 11.6 s | 22.9 s |
| 10 mm | 13.5 s | 17.0 s | 9.3 s | 18.3 s |
| 12 mm | 11.2 s | 14.2 s | 7.7 s | 15.3 s |
| 14 mm | 9.6 s | 12.1 s | 6.7 s | 13.1 s |
| 16 mm | 8.4 s | 10.6 s | 5.8 s | 11.4 s |
| 18 mm | 7.5 s | 9.4 s | 5.2 s | 10.2 s |
| 20 mm | 6.8 s | 8.5 s | 4.7 s | 9.2 s |
| 24 mm | 5.6 s | 7.1 s | 3.9 s | 7.6 s |
NPF = (35 × f-number + 30 × pixel pitch) ÷ focal length, with a pixel pitch of 2.4 µm (typical for this format — exact resolution not in our database). The strict version (Michaud's detailed NPF for the galactic core) gives pin-point stars at 100% view; the 500 rule is a loose rule of thumb that shows trailing on modern sensors.
Hyperfocal distance chart
| Focal length | f/2.8 | f/5.6 | f/8 | f/11 | f/16 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 mm | 3.3 m | 1.6 m | 1.1 m | 0.8 m | 0.6 m |
| 14 mm | 6.4 m | 3.2 m | 2.2 m | 1.6 m | 1.1 m |
| 16 mm | 8.3 m | 4.2 m | 2.9 m | 2.1 m | 1.5 m |
| 18 mm | 11 m | 5.3 m | 3.7 m | 2.7 m | 1.9 m |
| 20 mm | 13 m | 6.5 m | 4.6 m | 3.3 m | 2.3 m |
| 24 mm | 19 m | 9.4 m | 6.6 m | 4.8 m | 3.3 m |
| 28 mm | 25 m | 13 m | 8.9 m | 6.5 m | 4.5 m |
Focus at the hyperfocal distance and everything from half that distance to infinity is acceptably sharp (circle of confusion 0.011 mm). Use the hyperfocal calculator for other settings.
How to check the Leica C-Lux (Typ 1546) shutter count
Some Leica M and SL bodies show the count in the camera's service or info menu; EXIF support varies by model.
ExifTool tag: (varies). Always test an original, unedited file straight from the card.
