When a foreground is too close for hyperfocal focusing, a focus stack keeps everything sharp. This calculator finds the minimum number of frames and the exact focus distance for each one, so that the depth-of-field zones overlap from your nearest point to the far limit (or infinity).
Works for landscapes and macro-landscapes on any sensor.
How it works
H = f²/(N·c) + f. Each frame focuses at s = n(H−2f)/(H−f−n) so its near limit n equals the previous frame's far limit s(H−f)/(H−s).
FAQ
Should I overlap frames more?
Add one extra frame or focus slightly closer than listed for safety; stacking software handles extra overlap well.
