Lake Creek Bridge — a covered bridge in Lane County, Oregon — is a lesser-known subject for landscape photographers. It sits roughly 26 km (16 mi) WNW of Veneta. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Lake Creek Bridge also known as the Nelson Mountain Bridge, is a covered bridge near Greenleaf, in the U.S. state of Oregon, that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The 105-foot (32 m) covered bridge, built in 1928, carries Nelson Mountain Road over Lake Creek in Lane County. Notable features of the bridge include upper and lower truss chords made of one-piece old-growth timbers, narrow ribbon windows at the eaves, and portals that are truncated rectangular arches. A renovation in 1984 added new reinforced concrete abutments, new flooring, and other alterations to increase the bridge's load capacity. From the Wikipedia article “Lake Creek Bridge”, licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.
Sunrise & sunset directions

Milky Way & night sky
From Lake Creek Bridge, the Milky Way core is visible in a dark sky from March through September. June gives the longest window (about 3.7 hours on a moonless night), and the core peaks around 17° above the southern horizon. Our light-pollution model puts the sky at about Bortle 3 (rural sky), good enough for detailed Milky Way images.

Window when the galactic core is at least 10° high during astronomical darkness on the 15th of each month. Pick nights within a few days of the new moon. Plan exact nights with the Milky Way planner.
Estimated sky darkness: 3 Bortle 3 — Rural sky. Some light domes sit on the horizon, but the Milky Way still looks complex overhead. Modeled zenith brightness ≈ 21.64 mag/arcsec². Aurora needs roughly Kp 6.5+ to show low on the northern horizon here.
Weather & best season
Long-term NASA satellite data for this area show July as the clearest month (about 34% average cloud cover) and December as the cloudiest (80%). August is the warmest month and December the coldest, which matters for gear, snow access and how long batteries last at night.

Photography tips for this covered bridge
- Inside the bridge, the timber trusses make strong symmetrical compositions — use a tripod for long exposures.
- Many covered bridges still carry traffic; stay off the roadway and watch for vehicles.
- Overcast days keep contrast low between the dark interior and the bright surroundings.
- Autumn foliage peaks are the most popular time — visit on weekdays to avoid crowds.
- Tell someone where you're going in remote areas and carry the ten essentials.
Season: Peak fall color is the classic season; winter snow and spring blossoms are less crowded alternatives.
Suggested gear: Wide-angle lens, Tripod, Polarizer for foliage. Work out exposures with the depth of field, ND filter and NPF rule calculators.
