Located in McCormick County, South Carolina, Bradley's Covered Bridge is a covered bridge. The nearest town is McCormick, about 12.2 km (7.6 mi) away (Bradley's Covered Bridge lies NNW of town). It dates from 1892. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Bradley's Covered Bridge, also known as the Long Cane Covered Bridge, was a covered bridge located near Troy, South Carolina. Until its fiery destruction by vandals, the Long Cane Covered Bridge, listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1977, was one of three covered bridges in South Carolina. The bridge was constructed in 1892 by Y.P. Reagan to replace an earlier bridge, which had been washed away in January 1892. The new bridge was originally called "Bradley's Bridge" because it was close by John Bradley's mill. From the Wikipedia article “Bradley's Covered Bridge”, licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.

| Date | Sunrise | Azimuth | Sunset | Azimuth | Noon sun | Daylight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| March equinox (Mar 20) | 7:34 AM | 90° E | 7:41 PM | 271° W | 56° | 12h 07m |
| June solstice (Jun 21) | 6:19 AM | 61° ENE | 8:45 PM | 299° WNW | 79° | 14h 25m |
| September equinox (Sep 22) | 7:18 AM | 89° E | 7:28 PM | 271° W | 56° | 12h 10m |
| December solstice (Dec 21) | 7:32 AM | 118° ESE | 5:25 PM | 242° WSW | 33° | 9h 53m |
Azimuth is measured clockwise from true north (90° = east, 270° = west). Computed for 2026; values change by less than a degree from year to year.

Milky Way & night sky
From Bradley's Covered Bridge, the Milky Way core is visible in a dark sky from February through October. June gives the longest window (about 6.0 hours on a moonless night), and the core peaks around 27° above the southern horizon. Our light-pollution model puts the sky at about Bortle 3 (rural sky), good enough for detailed Milky Way images.

Window when the galactic core is at least 10° high during astronomical darkness on the 15th of each month. Pick nights within a few days of the new moon. Plan exact nights with the Milky Way planner.
Estimated sky darkness: 3 Bortle 3 — Rural sky. Some light domes sit on the horizon, but the Milky Way still looks complex overhead. Modeled zenith brightness ≈ 21.54 mag/arcsec².
Weather & best season
Long-term NASA satellite data for this area show October as the clearest month (about 43% average cloud cover) and July as the cloudiest (57%). July is the warmest month and January the coldest, which matters for gear, snow access and how long batteries last at night.

Photography tips for this covered bridge
- Many covered bridges still carry traffic; stay off the roadway and watch for vehicles.
- Overcast days keep contrast low between the dark interior and the bright surroundings.
- Autumn foliage peaks are the most popular time — visit on weekdays to avoid crowds.
- Shoot from the stream bank to show the bridge, the water and its reflection together.
- Inside the bridge, the timber trusses make strong symmetrical compositions — use a tripod for long exposures.
- Check road and trail conditions with the managing agency before you go.
Season: Peak fall color is the classic season; winter snow and spring blossoms are less crowded alternatives.
Suggested gear: Wide-angle lens, Tripod, Polarizer for foliage. Work out exposures with the depth of field, ND filter and NPF rule calculators.
